Sell faster on Mercari & Yahoo Furima using AI-written listings

Community tip · Practical routine

Prices are up and the yen is weak — a lot of us in Japan are looking for extra income wherever we can find it, and selling pre-loved items (Mercari, Yahoo! Furima, Rakuma, Facebook Marketplace) is one of the easiest starting points. Here's a simple routine using AI to write listing descriptions that actually convert.

物価高・円安の今、メルカリ等での不用品販売は始めやすい副収入源です。AIを使った出品文の作り方を紹介します。

1. Photograph the item properly

Upload 10–20 photos to an AI tool (Google AI Studio and similar work well). Even scratches, wear, and worn edges are fine — the more detail visible, the better the AI can describe it honestly.

2. Use a clear Japanese prompt

A prompt like this works well for Mercari, Yahoo Furima, and Rakuma listings:

「こちらの商品をメルカリやヤフーフリマ、ラクマに出品したいです。訪問者の購買意欲を最大限に刺激する魅力的な説明文にしてください。また価格設定も参考にしたいのでご教示ください。」

("I'd like to list this item on Mercari, Yahoo Furima, and Rakuma. Please write an appealing description that maximizes buyer interest, and suggest a reference price.")

3. Let it suggest photo angles too

A good AI pass will also tell you what to photograph next — brand label close-ups, depth of pockets or compartments, premium-looking angles, lighting. Better photos mean more likes and faster sales.

4. What to expect

This won't turn junk into gold, but a well-written, honest description with good photos genuinely moves faster than a one-line listing. One small example: I once listed a baseball glove that had been given to me for free, using this exact routine — describing the leather condition, the pocket depth, even how it "sounded" when caught. It sold for ¥5,980. Not life-changing money, but it was a glove I paid nothing for.

It's also worth learning to spot "human error" pricing at secondhand shops like Second Street, Off House, and TreFac — items priced low simply because staff didn't catch their resale value. I think of this as a kind of "smart buying literacy": learning to notice when a price tag doesn't match what something is actually worth.

セカンドストリート・オフハウス・トレファクなどでは、値付けミス(人的ミス)の掘り出し物が見つかることもあります。

Selling something with paperwork attached?
